Find your confidence & take back control

Who am I and what is it like to work with me?

Hello there. I’m Julia, and I’m all about supporting you to pause, refocus and reconnect with your talents and aspirations – to achieve the balance, freedom, transformation or new direction you crave.
My experience as a business leader, HR and L&D specialist, coach and working mum is at the heart all the insights and expertise that I’ll bring to helping you with your particular challenges.
I’m all too aware that during our careers, we’re often more focused on the getting going, paying the bills and staying successful, than considering how much we’re actually enjoying what we’re doing and where it’s leading us.

My own story was like this.

20 years in, and I’d achieved a lot. But quite suddenly, like getting a puncture, the bubble I was living in started to deflate. I’d fallen out of love with what I was doing but was unsure about what I wanted instead. I was working far too many hours and was close to burn out. I had no downtime and no idea what my teenage children were up to!

So I pressed pause.

I left my job. And began a journey to realign my work with the things that make me happy. It was harder than I thought. Not least because I’d really lost sight of me. My motivations and aspirations had shifted over time and I had to figure out what was driving me and feeling ‘real’ for me now. It wasn’t easy but I’m so glad I had the courage to do it.

My passion in my coaching work is about supporting you to connect with your aspirations and purpose in life. I’d love the opportunity to help you find ways to align what you do with the things that make you feel confident and fulfilled.

So you can enjoy thinking bigger, being bolder.

Working with you was a delight because of your incredibly sensible mix of honesty, empathy, experience and practicality – I have rarely seen someone who comes from a ‘corporate’ background combine these things successfully.

What I value…

  • Integrity – being real and being open.
  • Freedom – to be who we want to be and do it our way.
  • Courage – to embrace the changes that will bring us joy and contentment.
  • Self-belief – we are all so much more that we give ourselves credit for, and we sometimes simply need the support and a little encouragement to step into, and to own, our individual superpowers.

…and what my clients value in me

  • Razor-sharp ability to make sense of a situation and bring clarity.
  • Empathy and compassion to connect, and gain trust and rapport.
  • Pragmatism and humour that keep things grounded, but with a light touch.
  • Intuition and challenge to bring
    perspective and awareness.
  • Extensive experience of recruiting and leading expert teams across a range of industries and functions.
  • Expertise in developing and facilitating leadership development programmes.

I can’t thank you enough for your coaching during the past few months. Our sessions were my safe place to offload and make sense of what was going on. You really helped me to go deeper and acknowledge both the tricky bits and the wonderful stuff.

Julia’s approach is so much better than any others I’ve encountered in coaching – far more analytical, thoughtful and sensible, devoid of business bullshit. Even if it’s a tiny revolution you’re after, rather than a great revelation, you won’t regret it.

Digging a little deeper…

From beginnings in rural Kent, I’m anchored by nature, flora and roaming outdoors. I’ve managed to utilise my degree in Agricultural Botany at various points in my career, but these days its application is reserved primarily for the joy I find in my garden. I love the routine of the seasons, working outdoors and the excitement of discovering new plants.

While I’m yet to become a veg gardener, I do love fresh food and cooking – and my long-held pipedream to run a café in a garden centre may yet become a reality!

I live in Bristol with my husband and, more often than not, one of my two grown-up children, who are still plotting out their own careers and making the most of their freedoms. We’re fortunate to have beautiful countryside all around us and share a love of getting out there and muddy on foot or on bikes.
